One-day old chicks are actually rejects from poultry farms. They only choose the female chicks for egg productions and the male chicks ends up as "One-Day Old Chicks".

The baby birds are eaten batter-fried. You eat the whole chick because the bones are so soft. People usually dips the chicks in vinegar and/or red chili sauce. One-Day Old Chicks are also a popular pulutan (finger food) while drinking Red Horse Extra Strong or San Miguel beer.

There are more than 250 million male chicks that are killed at the hatcheries every year in the West. These are the chicks that are born at the hatcheries, half of whom are female, for the egg industry, and half of whom are male. Well the male chicks, not being bred to grow quickly enough for meat production, are useless to the egg industry, so they are killed at birth. Literally, these precious little fuzzy chicks that everybody goes gaga over -- when they are a day old, they are killed. They are either suffocated or thrown into what are called macerators, and they are ground up alive -- 250 million every year!

OK, I'm a vegetarian and my first reaction was "ew". Just because I'm a vegetarian doesn't mean I hate meat-eaters or whatever. I believe that killing cows, one day old chicks and pork and everything isn't any different from killing dogs, whales, cats etc for human consumption. Western people think it's so sad that whales get killed, harpooned and whatnot because we're not used to it. To me, it's the same as killing cows for human consumption. That doesn't mean I agree with it. I disagree with animal cruelty and if you're going to off an animal, at least let it not feel it. There's no reason to let it suffer unnecessarily.

I would like to say something regarding eating one day old or something similar to it. First of all the reason why all those things were existing it's because it has a purpose. It was created for us by our great Creator like fowls in the air, animals,trees, fruits, vegetables etc. for our own good. Now the difference only is that we came from different walks of life whether you are black or white, rich or poor still we have different style on how we prepare or even cook our own foods. I believe we have to "Respect others" like their Culture, Traditions,and Belief. What matters most is that we used it for good intentions and not for fun or enjoyment or what so ever. And lastly if you really want to express your feelings be civilize by not using Taboo words like "F" words.

Guys, I agree with Bex(From Philipine). He seems to be the most level-headed person on this thread. Most of us consume other animals.. which is true, but we all prefer to kill the animal with least pain and suffering to the animal. Also, most races (no offense!) on this planet continue to eat things their ancestors had to consume becaous of many reasons: poverty, no soucre of farming, slavery, etc., etc.... But nowadays we have access to all the good food practices: both veg and non-veg. So why do uncivilised things like putting animals to misery like crushing them alive! I am also against poeple who eat other animals not for food but just for increasing their libido and sex drive.
